TPS63802: Current Comsumption during Boosting

Part Number: TPS63802

Hi,

I have configured my TPS63802 regulator to output 3.7V. The input to the regulator is a li-po cell.

My question is:

If the input voltage is at 3.2V, the output will be boosted to 3.7V. Does this boosting consume current?

If yes, how much current is consumed by the regulator?

Thanks

  • Hi David,

    No converter is perfect, there are always some losses, and the efficiency is always below 100%. For your operating conditions, and assuming the device operates in power-save mode (MODE pin connected to GND), this is a typical efficiency as a function of output current:

    Vin = 3.2 V, Vout = 3.7 V, PFM mode, room temperature:

    For example, if the output current is 200 mA, the efficiency is 92%, and the input current is:

    Iin = (Vout * Iout) / Vin / eff = 251 mA

    Best regards,
    Milos
