BQ27220: How to use BQ27220

Part Number: BQ27220

Hi team,

(1) Could you provide functionality of GPOUT?

(2) BIN is for battery insertion detection and also for thermal detection?

(3) Does this device can monitor both charging/discharging current?

(4) When battery is aged, is there any compensation method for battery measurement?

Best regards,

  • See my comments below.

    (1) Could you provide functionality of GPOUT?

See the details in the datasheet and TRM.

    (2) BIN is for battery insertion detection and also for thermal detection?

Yes. It measures battery temperature via its BIN input.

    (3) Does this device can monitor both charging/discharging current?

    Yes.

    (4) When battery is aged, is there any compensation method for battery measurement?

Yes. Check the EDV Age Factor.

  • Andy,

    Thanks for your answer.

I'm not familiar with this device and also with application, so let me ask additional question.

For question (1), customer is bit confused by the comment in Figure.2, "GPOUT is configured as and input for wakeup signalling".

Does this mean GPOUT is used as wake-up state flag for MCU which is connected this signal?

For question (4), I looked 1.1.6 EVD Age Factor part but need exact example to understand what EDV Age Facotr  mechanism. I tired to access implemented link for further information, but the link was disconnected.

Could you provide detailed information about EDV Age Factor?

    Regards,

  • See my comments below.

    a) See the description in the datasheet.

    b) The EDV Age Factor has a default value of 0. As we mentioned in the TRM, for most applications, the default value of zero is sufficient.
