BQ27220: questions related to correction

Part Number: BQ27220

Hi experts,

My customer has three questions below related to BQ27220.

Could you let me know the answer?

(1)In the customer understanding, BIN does not have to be connected to thermistor. The customer asks if it means temperature correction is not required or not.

(2)Is there any correction of capacitance change because of a battery deterioration?

If yes, could you provide the detail?

(3)Coulomb counter monitors only discharge current. Charging current is not monitored. Is it correct?

Best Regards,

Atsushi Saito

(1)In the customer understanding, BIN does not have to be connected to thermistor. The customer asks if it means temperature correction is not required or not.

[Andy] See 4.3 Temperature Measurement of BQ27220 TRM. BQ27220 typically measures battery temperature via its BIN input to supply battery temperature status information to the gas gauging algorithm and charger-control sections of the gauge. Alternatively, it can be configured to use an internal on-chip temperature sensor or receive temperature data from the host processor.

(2)Is there any correction of capacitance change because of a battery deterioration?

If yes, could you provide the detail?

Yes.  Check the EDV Age Factor int the TRM.

(3)Coulomb counter monitors only discharge current. Charging current is not monitored. Is it correct?

    No. Coulomb counter monitors both.
