TPS65218: How to calculate Power dissipation of the part for thermal analysis

Part Number: TPS65218

I am using TPS65218B1PHP as a power management IC(PMIC) for AM3356BZCZ based environment.

Want to estimate power dissipation of the part, for thermal analysis. How do I calculate the power dissipation of the part?

Following are output voltage and current specifications.

Column1 V(out) V(in) I(out) P
DCDC1 1.1 5 0.422
DCDC2 1.1 5 0.379
DCDC3 1.35 5 0.265
DCDC4 3.3 5 0.6576
Vdds 1.8 5 0.019
  • Dhaval,

Have you considered using TPS65218D0, which is a silicon revision of TPS65218 (-B1) that fixes many issues detailed in the TPS65218 datasheet's Revision History?

To estimate power/thermal efficiency, you need to use the Efficiency plots, captured in the datasheet. At the expected output current (for example, DCDC1 Iout=0.422A), you can see the efficiency with Vin=5V, Vout=1.1V and estimate the power dissipation.
