BQ24170: BQ24170 - 15 μA Battery current with adapter removed

Part Number: BQ24170

Hello,

I would like you to ask about specifics information. In my design I am using BQ24170 device. If I´ll remove 12 V adapter, the device fall asleep (Vref signal fall down - everything is OK).. but current from battery is still larger then 100 uA (typicaly 120 - 170 uA). How is it posible? Could someone please measure this circuit please? Datasheet describes about 15 uA

Thank you for your advice,
Ondrej

  • Hello,

Do you have any load on VSYS?

If you remove Q5, does the current reduce?

    Regards,

    Joel H

  • Dear Ondrej,

The 15 uA leakage is measured on a tester with no active components connected to the IC. As such, I would look at the active component leakage currents in your circuits, such as diode reverse current.

I would also recommend checking the ACDRV voltage. If it is not close to 0 V, you may need a 500 kOhm resistor from ACDRV to CSMRC to drain the charge pump. This is recommended in the datasheet.

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

thank you so much for your replay.

    1. No, I don't have any load on VSYS (Q3 is removed too)
    2. If I remove Q5 the current is still the same
    3. I know that each active components consumes some (leakage) current, but more than 100 uA is too much for my circuit. I need total current less then 30 uA
    4. I added 500 kOhm resistor from ACDRV to CSMRC - now voltage on ACDRV to CSMRC is 1.8mV

For measure I use UT61E multimeter
PCB is clear from a flux and a impurities
Every components are as close as possible
Could someone please measure this circuit? ..or the bq24170EVM Evaluation Module

    Thank you for your advice,
    Ondrej

  • Dear Ondrej,

I measured on the EVM and concluded that the battery discharge current into the IC was less than 13 uA. I think there is another leakage path somewhere.

    Thanks,
