TPS60403: device failure with 10uF Cin/out

Part Number: TPS60403

Hi team,

I have a question about TPS60403 Cin/Cout.

My customer is evaluating TPS60403 and they use 10uF Cfly/Cin/out by mistake.
In that evaluation they found TPS60403 failure.

what they saw is Vin sinks 200mA and Vout outputs +0.8V.
(normal operation: Vin=3.3V, Vout=-3.3V)

even if they changed Cfly to 1uF(Cfly=1uF and Cin/out=10uF), they saw the same failure.

Question here is
- Is this failure caused by 10uF Cin/out?
- if yes, could you let me know the reason why 10uF Cin/out causes this failure?
- workaround?(maybe use 1uF Cin/out?)

Regards,
Kai

  • Hi Kai,

The datasheet explains the importance of using the recommended capacitors for the proper working of this device. Hence, I highly recommend you to follow the datasheet specifications (Page 14). The device is designed to function according to the recommended conditions and deviating from this recommendations would be at the risk of the customer.
