TPS63070: VIN = VOUT

Can VIN = VOUT for normal operation for TPS630701 (5V fixed output version of TPS63070)? I have a 5V unregulated input and need a 5V regulated output. If VIN = VOUT or is very close to VOUT, will the TPS630701 behave correctly?

Hi Inderjit,

Yes, you can use the TPS630701, as well as our other non-inverting buck-boost converters, for voltage stabilization when Vin is close to Vout.

What is your input voltage and output current range? We have other devices that might fit your application better. Are there any other requirements such as package, low Iq etc.?

Input voltage range is 4V to 12V and output current range is 500mA to 1A. I would prefer a fixed voltage output of 5V vs. adjustable.

Hi Inderjit,

For those conditions you can use the TPS630701 or the TPS63061. Both have a fixed 5-V output. The TPS630701 has slightly higher efficiency at high output currents while the TPS63061 have higher efficiency at very light loads (it has lower Iq).

Note that both device have limited output current capabilities during startup. They cannot support 1 A output current at startup if the input voltage is 4 V. Do you expect to have the maximum output current (1 A) on the output during startup?

By "startup" do you mean before Power Good is asserted?
