Need help in selecting the power rail generation IC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63070, TPS63060, TPS63802, TPS63030, TPS63050

Hi,

I'm designing a power supply board for my 2 separate power devices, the power rails are

1. 3V7 power rail

In this 3V7 rail, the ratings are

Vin(min) = 3.0 V

Vin(max) = 6.0 V

Iout(max) = 2 A

Vout(typ) = 3.7 V

2. 5V0 power rail

In this 5V0 power rail, the ratings are

Vin(min) = 3.0 V

Vin(max) = 6.0 V

Iout(max) = 300 mA

Vout(typ) = 5 V

The package of the IC should not be a BGA family

These are the requirements of the power supply design. Kindly help me to pick a right TI device to design the system successfully.

  • Hi Abuthahir,

For the 3.7-V rail, the TPS63070 is the closest device we have. However, note that:

    1. TPS63070 can only provide up to around 1.7 A at Vin = 3V. You will need at least Vin = 3.3 V for Iout = 2A. Is this fine?
    2. TPS63070 cannot start up with a high output current. At Vin = 3 V. The output current needs to be lower than 0.4 A during the startup. Do you expect to start the device with the maximum load present on the output?

For the 5-V rail you can use the TPS63070 or the TPS63060. Both have a QFN/DFN package.

If you can decrease the Vin(max) requirement to 5.5 V, then we have more choices.

    Best regards,
    Milos

  • Thank you. Consider my Vin(max) = 5.5 V and show me more.

  • Hi Abuthahir,

    In that case:

    1. For the 3.7-V rail I suggest TPS63802.
    2. For the 5-V rail I suggest TPS63050 (HotRod version) or TPS63030. The TPS63050 has more functionality (adjustable current limit and power-good output) and higher efficiency overall when compared to the TPS63030. On the other hand, the TPS63030 has slightly lower cost cost and higher efficiency at very light loads.

    Best regards,
    Milos

  • Hi Abuthahir,

We haven’t heard back so we're assuming this answers your question. If not, just post a reply below, or create a new thread if the thread has locked due to time-out.

    Thanks and regards,
