TPS630252: Short circuit protection when device is hard short

Part Number: TPS630252

Hi team,

Datasheet describes about short circuit protection like below.

-When the output voltage does not increase above 1.2V, the device assumes a short circuit at the output and limits the input current to 4 A.

My customer will do hard short test. How does short circuit protection work when device is in hard short condition?

Is the input current correctly limited to 4A?

Regards,

Saito

  • Hi Saito,

Both the input and the output current will be limited to 4 A. We will correct the description in the next datasheet revision. In short circuit situation, the output current will hit the current limit first (around 4 A typically), the input current will be somewhat lower.

Also, note that during a short circuit, the dissipation in the device is higher, but the thermal protection will make sure the device is not damaged by restarting the device if necessary.

    Best regards,
    Milos
