Hi,

there is an issue, i have to push the wake button to keep BQ40Z80EVM connect to my laptop, if i don't push, there is a disconnection. Below is the disconnected bqstudio screenshot.

I'm not sure how to avoid this issue, can you give me some suggestions?

Hi Mason,

That's how this gauge device has been designed. You need to apply a voltage on the Pack+ terminal to wake up the gauge device. By pressing the wake button, the battery voltage is shorted to Pack+ temporarily.

Sorry, I think I misunderstood your issue. Were you using the default firmware? What's the stack voltage?

Sorry for that I didn’t make myself clear.

I mean I have to keep push the button, so that the EVM can connect to laptop.

And I have update the firmware to "bq40z80FirmwareBundle-0.04".

The stack voltage is 24.8V.

BTW, I got 2 EVMs on my hand, one is OK, one occurs this issue. I also make several tests this morning, if i don't keep push the button, it shows like this:

Seems like the SMBus can't connect with my computer at all, and i can't update firmware.

Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Mason,

I have been working from home since last week. The bq40z80 EVM I have now doesn't have the issue.

Can you check the jumper settings of your two EVMs and see if there is any difference?

If you cannot see any difference, there might be a hardware issue with the bad EVM.

Hi Andy,

I find a way to connect EVM to my computer, below are the details:

1. Keep pushing the S1 button.

2. Open the bqstudio, EVM can connect to the laptop.

3. Open the firmware part, update the EVM firmware.

4. Release the button, EVM can connect to the laptop.

Hi Mason,

How about doing a power cycling after these steps? Do you still need to have the wake button pressed so that bqStudio can detect the EVM automatically?

I've tried to power cycling the EVM, then bqstudio can still detect the EVM automatically.
