TPS54623: For High Vo

Part Number: TPS54623

Dear Team,

My customer would like to implement this device at Vin=12V, Vo=8V/5A

Is this device suitable here?

I think it should be ok.

  • Hi Kevin,

Yes, the TPS54623 is suitable here. If it is not possible to apply a voltage to VIN that is PVIN+4V in the application, if the BOOT-PH voltage drops below the BOOT UVLO, the HS FET will be held off and the LS FET will turn on to recharge the BOOT-PH cap. In this scenario it is not 100% duty cycle but is very close to it, maybe 99.9% duty cycle.

    Best Regards,
    Anthony

  • Dear Anthony,

If VIN=PVIN=12V, what is the maximum Vout?

    8V, right?

  • Hi Kevin,

The equation below can be used to calculate the maximum Vout for a given Vin. This equation calculates the maximum Vout before the device enters 100% duty cycle mode and the frequency starts varying to keep the output regulated. The threshold for this to begin is a toff of 100 ns typical. When the toff becomes less than this, that is when the TPS54623 frequency starts varying. The TPS54623 can regulate higher Vout than calculated by this equation.

When using this equation for worst case calculations, I recommend considering the tolerance on the switching frequency and the resistances in the circuit.
