TPS65094: PMIC solution for Intel Elkhart lake

Part Number: TPS65094
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650830, TPS650861, TPS51285B

Hi Sirs

Does TI have the PMIC solution for Intel Elkhart lake (IMVP9)?

Is TPS65093x or TPS65094x recommended?

What is the different between both parts?

Thank you.

Amos

  • Hi Amos,

To my knowledge, Intel does not support PMIC for Elkhart Lake, instead using FIVR (Fully Integrated Voltage Regulators) + a few discretes.

TPS65094 was designed for Apollo Lake and has 3 controllers, 3 converters, 3 LDOs, 3 load switches. TPS650830 / 930 were designed for Skylake / Cannon Lake (and all the various spins of those with the same power requirements like Whiskey Lake) and have 4 controllers, 1 converter, and a bunch of sequencing and monitoring of discrete load switches.

If you can provide a desired power map, we can recommend a PMIC but there's no official Intel supported PMIC.

  • Hi Kevin

I draft a simple diagram for EHL power map.

Please help survey the suitable PMIC.

    Thank you

    Amos.

  • Hi Amos,

Thank you for the power tree.

It does look like TPS65094 would be a good fit still, however I will recommend TPS650861 which allows the user to program the voltages and sequencing to customize the solution since the default settings of the TPS65094 won't work here.

It has paired in the past with TPS51285B to generate the 5V/3.3V and then customer can choose any IMVP9 compliant controller for the VCCIN rail (TI does not have an IMVP9 compliant regulator to my knowledge).

    Rail Resource
    VCCIN_AUX BUCK2
    VCCIO BUCK1
    VDDQ BUCK6
    VTT VTT LDO
    V2P5A BUCK3
    V1P8A BUCK4
    BUCK5

BUCK5 would be available for any rail in the system up to 3A.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
