BQ76930: BQ76930

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, , BQ78350-R1

Hi

I am using BQ78350 with BQ76930 to design a 9S18P battery pack,

BQ76930 can only support 2 NTCs and each 18 cell are thermally isolated from the other 18 cell, I am wondering is there away i can add 6 more NTCs to BQ76930 to monitor the temperature for each 18P bloack?

Regards

Ahmed

  • Hi Ahmed,

The BQ76930 does not have provision for more temperature sensors, and the BQ78350-R1 does not have programming to understand more than the defined sensors.

In operation the BQ76930 will sample temperature every 2 seconds.  The timing of the sample is not identified externally other than by the pulse when it occurs. .If you could multiplex other sensors onto TS1 which is ground referenced, the part would measure the selected sensor, but synchronization would be uncertain.  If you had your own controller you could do that but you would have the uncertainty of which readings were from which sensor.  The BQ78350 would not know one value from another and would filter different readings.

It may be more practical to monitor the cell group temperatures with your own MCU and allow the BQ78350 to gauge with the BQ76930 temperature sensors.  If your MCU is not able to take action based on the individual cell temperatures you could create a composite temperature to feed to the BQ76930 TS1 input or pull the pin low to simulate a high temperature condition for the gauge.
