I want to use LM5050-Q1 realize an O’ring circuit 75V, 30A. is there any limitation of current for this circuit (30A), is there any special recommendation? It’s only the limitation of power mosfet?

In the evaluation board LM5050MK-1EVAL, The Mosfet that you used  SUM40N10-30-E3 is able to curry 40A why in the evaluation board Output Current Range: 0A to 15A? You take a derating of 62%? Is that for thermal consideration or another problem? I want to use this reference SQM85N15-19_GE3 what do you think?

Idem why the voltage in the LM5050MK-1EVAL is limited to 50V? my application is for 75V and 30A

  • Hi Firas,

    Yes, LM5050 is recommended for ORing 75V 30A power supply rails. Note that the during startup,  the MOSFET turn on time is dependent on the gate charge current 30uA and MOSFET gate charge. Until the MOSFET is ON, body diode of MOSFET would be conducting, need to size the MOSFET body diode rating as well.

    For high current desings, we recommend to add a series gate resistor of 10ohm from gate pin of IC to gate of MOSFET (s).

    EVM limitation is mailnly due to the thermal consideration of the PCB related to power dissipation.
