TPS51200: Vo Inrush current

Part Number: TPS51200

Hi Expert,

Customer used TPS51200 and see inrush current during power on about 3.68A. May we know the reason why and any risk for it?

I saw the Ivo current limit range, but how about the abs max rating?

Thanks,

Allan

  • Hi Allan,

The output voltage is off when REFIN voltage is below 0.39V.

When REFIN voltage reaches 0.39V, the output voltage rises up quickly to catch REFIN voltage, therefore there is an inrush current.

This inrush current is limited by internal current limit circuit and it has no risk to damage IC.

    Thanks

  • HI SIR

This inrush current is limited by internal current limit circuit and it has no risk to damage IC.

==> The Absolute Maximum Ratings in the ic spec does not mention this current specification. How can we get the value of this specification?
Because our customers only believe what is stated in the specifications.

  • Hi Mick,

It is fine as long as the current is below maximum current limit (4.5A).

The ABS rating for input current is higher than 4.5A, though it is not in datasheet.

    Thanks
