TPS92641: Bootstrap diode

Part Number: TPS92641

Hi team,

I have a question about the bootstrap diode.

I believe that voltage rating of the bootstrap diode requires more than Vcc(9.14V max) of TPS92641. However, the TPS92641EVM employs 100V/1A Schottky diode. Does the bootstrap diode require such a high voltage?

Yamaguchi

  • Hello,

The bootstrap diode is attached to the switch node through Cboot.  It will see Vin as reverse voltage across it.  It should be rated as high or higher than the MOSFET VDS rating needed.

If you see where it is connected there is an offset of VCC on both sides of the diode, VCC on the anode side, SW node plus Vboot on the cathode. (Vboot is one diode drop less than VCC) so it sees the switch node voltage from cathode to anode when the upper MOSFET is on.  This will be Vin.

    Best Regards,
