BQ25710EVM-017: Charge Current Register resets when adapter is removed?

Part Number: BQ25710EVM-017
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQ25710, BQ40Z50, BQ24610

Hi TI,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the BQ25710EVM-017. I have a battery that is always connected to the charger board. I connect the charger board through the EV2400 to my PC and I program a value into the Charge Current Register. The battery starts charging with the set current limit, but when I unplug the adapter and plug it in 5 seconds later, the Charge Current Register is reset.

Why does that happen? I did not remove the battery. I would like the charger board to pick up charging again when the adapter is plugged in again.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi there,

    Please refer to the datasheet:

9.6.3 ChargeCurrent Register - Any conditions for CHRG_OK low except ACOV will reset ChargeCurrent() to zero. The adaptor unplug condition sets CHRG_OK low.

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for your reply. I then have another question. We use the bq25710 in combination with the bq40z50. We want to program a charging current one time, so when an adapter plugs in it charges to that current. We do not want the register to reset so we have to program it again. Is it possible to program the bq25710 charging current register with the bq40z50 (as a master)?

For example, we unplug the adapter and plug it back in, the charger indicates that a good power source is connected and the bq40z50 then provides the bq25710 with the appropiate charging current.

If this isn't possible, do you have a recommendation for another charger to use?

    Kind regards,

  • Both BQ25710 and BQ40Z50 need to interface with a host to set the charging current. It looks you are looking for a standalone charger, such as BQ24610.
