TPS2543EVM-064: About charging current.

Hi team.

My customer use TPS2543EVM, please tell us about the charging current.

This device should be compatible with bc1.2(1.5A) and Divider Mode2(2.1A), but the charging current of Xperia was 0.9A and iphoneXR was 1.5A.

Does we need to do anything?

Hello Kengo,

Yes, if the EVM is configured to DCP_Auto mode, it will be able to provide multiple charging architectures, supporting the two that you highlighted above. However, being able to supply that much current does not mean that the connected device will draw that amount of current. Current consumption will change depending on the battery status of the device

Thank you for your reply.

That's what I thought, so it was the same even when the remaining charge was 50% or less.

And if they use other device(MAX16432) they can be charged(Xperia:1.5A, iphoneXR:2.1A).

Do you have any ideas for solving this problem?

Hi Kengo,

Check the setting of the EVM to make sure you are in DCP_Auto mode, and check the resistance of the resistor connected to the ILIM pin your configuration is using to make sure it can supply the necessary current. Finally, using an oscilloscope, measure the DP/DM lines when a device is connected, and if the signals match the correct charging configuration, then the reason for the lower current is the portable device not pulling as much as the charger can provide.

Hello Kengo,

I would prefer to keep the messaging on the forums. Since there is no proprietary data being shared (schematics, etc...) I would like to keep the conversation on the forums so that others can benefit from potentially having the same issue
