TPS7A54EVM-006: 68uF capacitor designated as C8

Part Number: TPS7A54EVM-006

Hello team,

My team and I were checking the layout of the TPS7A54EVM-006 evaluation module and we have some questions in regards to one of the capacitors on the board. According to the TPS7A54EVM-006 evaluation module user guide (SBVU044-March 2018), the schematic of the board shows that there is a 68uF capacitor designated as C8 as indicated in Figure 6 of the user guide shown below.

The TPS7A54EVM-006 BOM shows that the C8 capacitor should be TPSC686K016R0200 as shown in Table 2 of the User Guide shown below.

When looking at the picture of the board shown on the first page of the user guide, we noticed that there is no capacitor installed at the C8 pad location. Can you please let us know why there is no capacitor installed at the C8 pad location? My team and I would be very thankful for any help that you can give us.

  • Hi Michael,

When we design an EVM we have them populated with the components that we think will be most similar to the way the majority of customers will use our device in their applications. That being said we know that some customers will want to do something different and we try to provide them with some flexibility so they can implement something closer to their actual application. Since this is a high current LDO we know that some customers will want to add some large value capacitors and so we placed C1 and C8 on the board so they'd have pads which could accommodate larger case sizes more easily.
