high side Current-sense " fuse replacement" for Mains Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC3301

Hello,

I am looking for a design that can replace a mains power fuse.

We have tried many of the breaker switches on the market and that is not working for us.

This would need to be powered by the 115VAC/230VAC side, so I'm not exactly sure how this will work...

I am thinking a high-side current-sense resistor where the voltage is measured by an amplifier.  Once the voltage (current) hits a set level an output goes high which can open up a mechanical relay.

The current-sense amplifier would need some type of isolation technology. Use a AC-DC convertor to power the amplifier...

I am wondering if someone out there may have already done this?  Is there a package/design already available that can handle at least some of what is needed?

Thanks!

  • Hi Scott,

For high side current sensing using shunt can be implemented using AMC3301. This is a precision isolated amplifier with +/-250mV input voltage. In addition, this also has integrated DC-DC converter where you can derive isolated power supply to do the accurate sensing. This would be easiest and simplest way to achieve what you are looking for.
