Hi,
The max. output current of TPS54620 is 6A, but if it is used near 100% duty cycle, +12V input and +12V output, what is the max. output current?
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,
The TPS54620 can still provide the full 6A when operating at 100% duty cycle. The tradeoff is the output voltage will drop with load depending on the DC voltage drops across the HS FET Rdson, inductor DCR and PCB trace resistance. The output voltage would simply be ~Vin - Iout*R, where R is all of the resistance between the input and output voltage.

Hi Anthony,
I have a TPS54620 which burned at input , Pin4/5/6 location. There is no burns at output.
The burn is caused by over loadings, someone hot plugged another card to this board without turning off the power.
I can’t understand why it burned at input location, not at output location. Could you explain the reasons to me?
Thanks,
Tony
Hi Tony,
The hot plug may have caused over voltage stress at either VIN or PH. If the initial point of damage is from PH to ground (LS FET), it can often also result in damage to the HS FET which shorts VIN to PH to ground.
