TPS53626: TPS53626 Intel CRB change design and SW impact ti Coreboot or BIOS

Part Number: TPS53626
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53622, TPS53625

Hi ,

If I use TPS53622 instead of intel Harcuvar CRB which has TI VR12 controller,

Does the platform BIOS or coreboot need to be reprogrammed for this new Vr13 change.

is there any SW impact if I change Vr13 TPS53622 in Intel processor platform Harcuvar CRB Dc DC design.

Thanks,

Santhosh

  • Hi Santhosh,

No impact, you can use TPS53622 for Denverton.

    Thanks

  • Hi Chasel,

    Thanks for the response.

Please confirm, We have Harcuvar CRB which has TI VR12 controller i.e TPS53625

Now I can re-use the platform and BIOS and core boot provided by inetl for Harcuvar CRB

and there will not be any firmware or SW impact if I change the TPS53625 to TPS53622

It will just work like the evaluation board CRB, no need to bother about this VR13 change w.r.t Powerup, bootup.

Does this changed design is  tested and working anywhere with other customers?

    Thanks,

    Santhoshkumar.R.

  • Hi Santhoshkumar,

Customer will need to modify some settings in BIOS in order to accommodate to their design, in terms of VR portion, TPS53622 is VR13 compliant device, and if you look at requirement from CPU vendor, it is required to use VR13 device. For more detail, they should check intel because BIOS ROM is not made by us.

And we do have plenty of customers using TPS53622 for Denverton for years..

    Thanks

    Chasel

  • Hi Chasel,

    Thank for the clarification.

However, the VR13  TPS53622 is reverse compatible to VR12 or Vr12,5.

So if a SoC CRB platform is working with VR12, then if we use VR13 it should automatically work with the existing VR12 design right?

I mean the basic functionality should work with existing Intel CRB.

May be some enhancement you need additional settings to existing settings.(Intel CRB with TPS53625 VR12)

My question is if the SVID1.7 spec and VR13 or VR12 compliance means, then the basic SoC requirement should meet with SVID control.

Without any major binary change for inetlSoC

    Thanks,

    Santhoshkumar.R

  • Hi Santhoshkumar,

Yes, the basic SoC requirement should meet with SVID control.

You can use TPS53622 for Denverton platform for sure.

    Thanks
