I want to use the booster for a USB OTG device, to provide 5V to VBUS from a Lion battery.

I also will be using the same VBUS rail for charging the battery. I was planning on a circuit along the lines of what is shown in figure 37, with a switch on the input to the inductor, but will I also need a switch on the output or can the IC handle 5V on the output with the input disconnected?

I'll recommend TPS61099, which has the true load disconnection function during shutdown. This solution don't need external diode or FET.

Hi Minqui

OK thanks. Can you confirm that with the TPS61099, you are able to apply 5V to the output when enable is low? I have read that when the enable pin is low, the input is disconnected, but just wanted to check there would be no damage or significant current to ground from the output path.

Hi Laurence:

Yes, TPS61099 can block the current no matter Vin or Vout is higher during disable.

But after all, the all parameters should below the Absolute Maximum Ratings.
