BQ34Z950: Minimizing learning/recalibration time

Part Number: BQ34Z950
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

We are attempting to minimize the duration required to reset MaxError for batteries which have been used in the field for some time.

We perform a learning cycle as described in SLUA903 (Achieving The Successful Learning Cycle), however there is some confusion over the required Rest duration period after a discharge. Our understanding is we need to Rest until dV/dt<4uV/S which will be indicated by VOK being cleared.

From SLUA903: "The 5 hour wait time is a recommendation; the most accurate time is determine when the [VOK] and [RDIS] bits are clear, which can occur sooner than 5 hours." it would appear we could terminate the Rest phase and initiate charging once VOK is cleared. This doesn't appear to work however as VOK does not get set when charging is started. The highlighted section in the chart below shows VOK being cleared a little over 2 hrs after the end of discharge. Immediately upon seeing VOK cleared charging begins, however the VOK line is not set until several hours later when a discharge starts.

Is there something else we can look at to terminate the Rest phase besides or in addition to VOK? Or should we just wait the recommended 5 hours? I will note that on some other gauges, e.g. bq40z50, starting a charge immediately after the REST flag is set seems to result in a successful learning cycle.
