BQ35100: BQ35100 VIN capacitor(3300pF) ?

Part Number: BQ35100

Hi TI team,

We saw BQ35100.Pin1 with a capacitor(3300pF) from the document (bq35100EVM-795 Evaluation Module User’s Guide.pdf).

What’s the purpose? How to calculate the capacitance of capacitor?

In our current design, we placed two capacitors(3.3uF + 100nF), is it avaiable?

Will BQ35100 read wrong voltage with long charge time?

Please give us some suggestion.

Thanks

Kane Lin

  • Kane,

The purpose of that capacitor is to filter out noise on the battery voltage due to high transient spikes. I recommend you test the bq35100 with these values to see how the gauge responds under true load conditions.

Your values seem very large and the voltage response will lag when the load is removed or applied. If you are able to get consistent measuredZ values you should be ok to move forward.

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos
