TPS2001D: Get burned after pulse output short test

Hi Sir,

My customer recently encountered a problem with TPS2001D. After doing pulse output short test, it get burned and damaged.

May refer to the waveform below. The output peak current is up to 60A while the limited current is around 10A.

This damaged TPS2001D each time after replacing burned one with new one.

This waveform is quite different to what datasheet captures in the figure below left.

They would like to know

(1) What may cause TPS2001D damaged after pulse short output test?

(2) The measurement point of output current in datasheet is at pink circle or red circle in the figure below right?

Hi Edward,

The part supports short to GND protection.

What's your input cap?

What happened if short output to GND manually instead of pulse?

Try to increase the input cap value.

If still burn, better to have a test on EVM board.

Thanks for your feedback.

It still get burned if short output to GND manually.

The input cap seems to be only 0.1uF. I will try to increase the value to 10uF and test again.

After adding one more 10uF capacitor nearby the input, the voltage droop at input improves a lot.
