TPS2660: Can you make me clear about equation 5 in TPS26002 datasheet?

Part Number: TPS2660

Hi Expert,

Can you make me clear about the meaning of equation 5 and related description in red?

Why I need to limit Vimon_max if I want to get linear output? Why I cannot get linear output if I don't limit Vimon_max?

Why Vimon_max is limited to MIN[Vin-1.5, 4V] ? What does 1.5V and 4V means?

What does 1.8V denominator means?

Thank you

Rachel

  • Hi,

The current monitoring amplifier needs headroom voltage to operate linearly that where the factor of MIN[Vin-1.5, 4V] is coming into design.

Why I cannot get linear output if I don't limit Vimon_max?

If Rimon is not sized properly, the Vimon voltage saturates to max 4V at lower currents. Which means you will not able to reach the current information at higher currents.

    What does 1.8V denominator means?

1.8 factor is coming from the fast-trip current threshold. It is used in the equation considering customers are interested to monitor transient currents beyond the ILIM value.

    Best Regards, Rakesh
