LM3481: LM3481 SEPIC Lower Current DCM mode.

Part Number: LM3481

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm3481.pdf

In above reference, SEPIC Inductor calculation formula mentioned in Page 27, equation 52,53.

According to this formula,CCM mode is maintained by selecting a higher value of Inductor.

But Inductor is calculated at rated load current.

For Lower Load currents, converter may operate in DCM.

Operating in two modes(CCM & DCM) ,does this create as issue? Please explain.

Is that allowed to run in both Modes?

Thanks in Advance.

  • Hi Sudheer,

Thanks for your interest in LM3481.

You are right. The non-synchronous converter will run into DCM at light load.

When the load changes, the converter will naturally change the operation mode. This is normal.

    Thanks,
