TPS55165-Q1: only 8V output in boost mode

Hi,

My customer's design can only output 8V even under only 200mA load. if Vin> 12V,it is OK,but once input is below 12V, the output will drop. schematic is as below. if this related to layout, please kindly suggest what may cause this output drop? thanks.

Vin: 5.9V - 20V

Vout: 12V

Iout max: 800mA

Dear Sir,

This is a common problem at customer side.

Generally it is an layout issue. The customer must use a 4-layer board and follow the layout guide in the datasheet. Please send the below app note to them.

Thanks for your reply. could you please explain a bit more about why the layout can cause the output volatge drop? I have to explain to my customer and push them re-design.also, why have to 4 layer？this may influence customer to give up this device.
