TPS92512: Tps92512 inductive howling

Part Number: TPS92512

Hello:

I would like to consult my tps92512 for LED dimming, input 16.5v, output 14v-15v, output is connected to 5 LED lights, voltage 14v-15v, The voltage of my IADJ pin is 1.7V. I use a fixed frequency of PDIM for switching. When the frequency is 1kHz to 15KHz for dimming, the inductance is howling. The fixed frequency will not howl. The inductance is 82uh. What pin do I want to consult about the inductance howling?

  • Hello,

PWM dimming can cause audible noise in components.  You can try different inductors to try and reduce this noise.  What is the fixed frequency when the inductor doesn't howl?  You can try PWM dimming at different fixed frequencies to see what frequency range is causing the issue.

Other components can also cause audible noise such as ceramic capacitors.  If these are not the culprits it is possible the LED driver could be unstable, this can be checked by looking at the current waveform.  I suspect it is audible noise in a component.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

I haven’t heard back from you, I’m assuming you were able to resolve your issue.
