UCC28704: About the term "OFF-LINE"

Part Number: UCC28704

Hello everyone

In the ucc28704 device description page, it says off-line flyback controllar.
Does this means it cannot be operated with rectified DC from the mains?.

Thank you
Damith

  • Hello,

This flyback controller requires a bridge rectifier to convert the AC line to a DC voltage, that is fed to the input of the flyback controller.

So the UCC28704 can be used with a DC input.

    Regards,

  • Hello Mike

Thank you for the help. But thats not the question.

I want to know what it meant by "off-line" flyback controllar.

What is the difference between offline flyback CONTROLLAR and the normal flyback controllar.

    Thank you

    Damith

  • Hello,

The offline flyback operates off of line power and has a bridge rectifier to convert the AC voltage to DC voltage.  The flyback then steps down or up this voltage.

However, in some applications a DC input voltage is required and just uses a DC to DC step down flyback voltage.
