TPS40055: Changing FET

Part Number: TPS40055

Hello team,

My customer is trying to replace external FET due to EOL.

By changing external FET, is compensation network change usually needed?

Updated FET will have much smaller parasitic capacitance. Rise and fall time will get much shorter.

Input and output capacitors and inductor are not going to change.

Also, could you please let me know key check point or design pit fall of changing FET?

Regards,

Itoh

  • Hello

The compensation network should not have to be changed when changing the power MOSFETs.

With smaller capacitance the rise and fall times will be faster and you may see an improvement in

    efficiency.

You may also see more voltage spikes and noise or ringing on the switching node.  This may

create more EMI.  You may need to increase the series gate resistor to slow done the switching node

    if EMI is a problem.

    Thanks
