BQ76930: I2C address

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, TIDA-01093

Hi,

Good day. I hope everything is fine.

Our customer are using the BQ76930 and the want to add more AFEs. They want to use 8 in total however they run out of addresses. On the datasheet, it says that custom addresses are possible (page 4) -- what would be involved to get a different address?

They want to know if they could get a different base I2C address (0x0A for example).

I would appreciate your support. Thank you and have a great day.

Regrads,

Cedrick

  • Hi Cedrick,

It is possible in the part design to have different addresses.  Two addresses are presently available, 0x08 is the common, 0x18 is available in a few configurations.  See the Device Comparison Table in the BQ76940 data sheet. From a business standpoint the volume must support the investment for the additional address.  Contact the business group for discussion of the part volumes.

From a design and inventory standpoint it can be difficult to maintain stock of different versions of essentially the same part.  It may have benefit to design a I2C multiplexing scheme.  The TIDA-01093 uses 2 devices and chose to switch the I2C, for 8 devices a different scheme might be desired.
