BQ25890H: Input current limit of less than 500 mA is not support on ILIM pin.

Part Number: BQ25890H

Hi, Team

There is following comment at description of pin function. Could you help to explain what does it mean? Thanks.

Input current limit of less than 500 mA is not support on ILIM pin.

  • Hi Daniel,

    The ILIM pin resistor sets a maximum input current limit clamp which supercedes the IINDPM register.  In other words, the input current limit is the lower of the IINDPM register or the ILIM pin resistor setting.  However, the ILIM pin resistor cannot be used to clamp the input current limit lower than 500mA.  But the IINPDM register can be set to values below 500mA.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi, Jeff

    IINMAX = KILIM/RILIM, KILIM=350 A*Ohm typical, for IINMAX = 500mA, RILIM = 700 Ohm typical.

    So what will happen if customer sets RILIM > 700 Ohm?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Daniel,

    When clamped below 500mA using ILIM, the input current could potentially oscillate.  Therefore, we do not recommend such operation.

    Jeff
