TPS2321: Operating Virtual Junction Temperature Range

This device is a controller and the current flowing into the device is in the order of mA's at most. There wouldn't be any significant power dissipation in the controller and hence no significant temperature rise. 

The device can be safely operated for –40°C to 85°C Ambient Temperature Range and in this condition you can see that the device junction temperature would be within the range of –40°C to 100°C

Thanks for sharing the information about the virtual junction temperature. With a maximum 100°C junction temperature, this controller might not be suitable for my project. Can you recommend other controllers from your portfolio that can replace this IC with higher rated junction temperature?

Can you let me know your System Specification ? (Vin, Max Load Current, Total Output Capacitance, protection features required)

Please see details below

• Maximum ambient temperature is 60C
• Input voltage - 18-30V, 24V nominal
• I need dual hot swap controller because this will be used for 5.1V and 3.3V power stages.
• Max load current for 5.1V is 12A
  
• Max load current for 3.3V is 18A
• Total output capacitance for each power stage is 2000uF
• Protection features includes OVP and OCP

I tested the TPS2321 on our unit at 60C and the measured case temperature is 92C on the worst condition. This is the reason I need a controller with higher temperature rating. It would be great if you can propose a pin compatible replacement for the TPS2321.

Unfortunately, we do not have dual hotswap controllers which can suit your requirement and have Virtual Junction Temperature range greater than 100C.

Can you consider using two TPS24770 Hotswap controllers for each rail (5.1V and 3.3V) ?

Thanks for your proposal. I will look into the datasheet first. Do you have other single channel hot swap controllers that have fewer pins than the TPS24770?
