Hi Carlo,
Generally, the steps listed in the application note are good enough to be used to calculate the compensation network. However, the transfer functions between the different switch-mode power supply topologies are not the same, as the pole and zeroes will vary.

It goes through the different types of poles and zeroes you may see in each topology, as well as strategies to compensate them using your error amplifier network.
