UCC256403: Suitability for 2.0 kW Battery charger

Part Number: UCC256403
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD7138, UCD3138A

Hello,

I am designing a EV battery charger with the following specs. I have decided to go with Half bridge LLC topology for DC-DC converter

Vin= 400Vdc

Vout=(40-60) vdc

Iout=35A

Maximum power=2000W

I would like to know whether we can use UCC256403 with a gate driver for above application!!

Please suggest any other LLC resonant controller from TI in-case the above controller is not suitable.

Regards,

Biswajit

  • Hello,

    The UCC256403 controller itself does not dominate the power level it can be used for.  The FETs you are driving do have more of an influence based on gate charge, miller plateau and gate drive current and thermals.

    There is a training presentation at the following link on designing multi kW power supplies that you may find helpful in doing your design and selecting the correct power supply controller. training.ti.com/designing-multi-kw-power-supply-systems KW REFRENCE DESIGN&tisearch=Search-EN-everything

    We also have many reference designs to use from to help in the design process.  The following link will get you to a 1 kW design using the UCD7138/UCD3138A

    Regards,
