TPS63802: Need help reviewing a Booster design with TPS63802

Part Number: TPS63802

Hi,
The following are the design parameters

Vin: 3.3V to 4.2V (Li Ion Battery)

Vout: 5V
Iout: 1.5A

Following is the schematic and PCB design . Need help reviewing this design and any insights as to how it could be made better

Thanks!

  • Hi Milind,

    Thanks for reaching out.

For the schematic, if you don't plan to use the PG output, you can omit R49 and leave the PG pin floating or connect it to GND.

For the PCB layout you need to do the following changes:

    1. Move the output capacitors C25 and C26 as close as possible to the IC.
    2. Connect the PGND and GND pins of the IC, and GND ends of input/output capacitors in the top layer under the IC, as recommended in the datasheet:
    3. Add more thermal GND vias under/around the IC if you plan to drive it continuously at 1.5 A.

GND routing is extremely important for switchmode converters. Please follow the guidelines from the datasheet and from the application notes I posted in your previous thread.

    Best regards,
    Milos
