  • Please provide your actual question regarding bq34z100-G1.

Also make sure to reference the EVM and EVM user's guide here for help.

  • Hi Kang,

We have battery pack design with BQ34Z100-G1. Currently we are completed battery chemistry ID and learning cycle with battery and EVB board because we do not have PCBA yet. We have some below questions. Please help to clarify

1./ After we receive PCBA, Do we need to do battery chemistry ID and learning cycle again?

2./ At golden image generation step, Do we need to disable IT_EN, how to do this?

3./ Could we use this golden image to flash to our PCBA?

4./ Do we need to have fine tune for production?

    Thanks,

    Ty

  • See my comments below.

1./ After we receive PCBA, Do we need to do battery chemistry ID and learning cycle again?

    [Andy] No.

2./ At golden image generation step, Do we need to disable IT_EN, how to do this?

[Andy]  It is optional to change the 'Update Status' from 06 to 02.

3./ Could we use this golden image to flash to our PCBA?

    [Andy] Yes.

4./ Do we need to have fine tune for production?

[Andy] The golden image file contains the same calibration information that the device it was exported from.

Although it is recommended as part of the manufacturing process to calibrate each board, it is often where users calibrate a handful of boards and use average calibration data in the golden file.

  • Thank Andy for your answers,

    I have concern as below

1./ We are using battery pack 3S5P. Do we need to do one more charge/discharge cycle to Update Status register change from 06 to 0E?

2./ At golden image generation step, Do we need to disable IT_EN, how to do this?

[Andy]  It is optional to change the 'Update Status' from 06 to 02.

[Ty] In Bqstudio, It just has "Write All" option so before we write 02 to Update status register in Flash. Do I need to do "Read All" first? I observed that some of parameters in bQstudio do not update so when we write All, it overwrite value in Flash

    - If I do not disable IT_EN and I flash golden image to new PCBA board so board will start working and I can not do any more calibration. Is this right?. What is difference between disable IT_EN and keep IT_EN at this step?

[Ty] Do you have any document for calibration at production phase? Could you please share me?

    Thanks,

    Ty

  • you need to do a read all first, then import gg file, then write all, and do another read all.

for calibration, please refer to the TRM and EVM user's guide. Those are the documents we have on calibration for this part.

  • Hi Kang,

Could you specify your answers base on my questions?

    Thanks,

    Ty

  • Hello Ty,

I think this answers your question about bqStudio import procedure.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

3./ Can I use .srec file that I create from previous to flash to new PCBA?

    Thanks,

    Ty

  • Hello Ty,

    1. Yes, one more cycle will get you a field update.

    2. No, you don't need to disable IT. I don't believe you can actually disable IT other than changing the update status back to 0x00.

    3. You should be able to. The srec does contain the calibration information. If you need to calibrate every pack, you will need to perform calibration after you flash the srec.

  • Thank Kang for your answers
