BQ40Z80: assembly order requirement

Hi Champs,

  1. Is there a mandatory order in which the device needs to get connected to the battery pack? I did not find a requirement in the datasheet.
  2. During the assembly of the pack, is it possible to hold the device in reset to prevent any unintended operation from the BQx?

    Hello Simon,

    1. There's no requirement on order, but best practice is from bottom cell to top cell. The gauge IC should be in shutdown until a voltage is applied to the PACK pin, so they need to ensure that the gauge remains in shutdown by no prematurely applying power to PACK pin during assembly and well as ensuring proper ESD compliant conditions and no voltage ABS max violations during assembly
    2. As mentioned above the gauge IC will be in shutdown with no operation and will continue to do so until voltage is applied to PACK pin.
