LM74700-Q1: Operation at light load

Part Number: LM74700-Q1

Hi all,

I have an application where I have to get power from any of two power rails. Both rails have a voltage range of 11V-17V and may have different voltage at the same time. There could also be a situation where one of the rails is OFF. Thus, I was looking at power OR-ing and was considering the LM74700. The output from this OR-ing will be solely used as an auxiliary power output where the user will have the option to connect any device up to a maximum of 8A.

According to the LM74700 datasheet, I should ideally aim to maintain the voltage drop across the pass mosfet between 20mV and 50mV. The issue is that there is no fixed minimum current in my application. In such case, should I am for a design which aims at a higher voltage drop on the pass mosfet (limited by power dissipation) such that the LM74700 will have good sensitivity or will there be some issues if the voltage drop increases further than 50mV?

If the LM74700 is seen not suitable for my application, are there any devices you can suggest?

Thanks
