LM5050-1: VS pin connection

Part Number: LM5050-1

Hi team

We are going to configure the LM5050 design with reverse input voltage protection so follow the design in datasheet Figure 31. However, we have experienced leakage problems before, so we usually solve this problem by connecting the VS pin to IN pin instead of OUT pin.

Can you please comment on whether we can use the connection for the Figure 39 design? Thank you!

Best regards,
Sam Ting

  • Hi

Yes, you can connect R1 to IN and no issues in terms of damage to components and reverse polarity protection.

However, if there are requirements to survive input micro-short conditions (short 100us interuptions) where LM5050 turns off quickly and then required to turn back on after the micro-short is removed, we can increase the capacitance C1 to hold Vs voltage so that LM5050 is powered and ready to turn back on quickly after input short.

If you dont have above requirements, then we don't see any issues.

    Regards,

    Kari.
