BQ2962: Change cell monitoring sequence

I have one question about bq2962. May I know if PIN 4 can be used to monitor Cell 4 voltage instead of Cell 1 voltage? basically to reserve the cell ordering from V1 --> V2 -> V3 -> V4 (Pin5 -> Pin4 -> Pin3 -> Pin2) to V4 --> V3 -> V2 -> V1 (Pin5 -> Pin4 -> Pin3 -> Pin2). May we design bq2062 in that way? If not, may I know the reason? If so, is there any risk? Thanks.

    Hi Jack,

    The inputs are designed for differential voltage with a specific threshold, if the order is changed the internal circuit will see a negative voltage and will not function properly.  The abs max voltage will be violated and the part could be damaged.

    Hi Jack,

    Another way to understand the question is the pin labeling.  It is the voltage applied to the cell which is important for operation, not the pin names or the net names. Some devices or users label pins for the cells from the bottom up as was done in the BQ2962 data sheet.  Other devices or users will label pins for the cells from the top down.  If the proper voltage is connected to the proper pin number the part will work fine.
