Hello,

we have a new design and we are planning to use BQ25890 and BQ27520-G4 for one cell application.

Are they the right combination?

Any guidance and recommendations?

Would you please send to me a typical application diagram on how to connect the two chips? Or it will better a typical application schematic? Or a guide on how to connect the two chips.

Hi Ghani,

BQ27z561-R1 is our latest gauge for one cell applications. I recommend this device as it has I2C comm interface and smaller package than BQ27520-G4. We don't have an application diagram with both this charger and gauge. For specific questions on BQ25890 please create a separate thread under that device, as a different team owns that. But in general you will want to use an I2C controlled charger, like the one you picked.

Hi Ghani,

BQ27z561-R1 is a pack-side fuel gauge. For system-side, I recommend you use the device you chose, BQ27520-G4.

thanks a lot, my last question please, would you please explain to me why a pack side fuel gauge can not be used in a system-side implementation? I searched for information but so far I did not find anything. Any document explains that it will be very kind of you.

Hi Ghani,

Pack side gauge can be used in system side implementation, as long as the battery is not removable/replaceable by the user. System side gauges typically have a battery insertion detection feature, so if user swaps out the battery then the gauge will know.
