BQ20Z655-R1: Timer Delay

Part Number: BQ20Z655-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW

Hi,

I designed battery pack that uses BQ20Z655-R1. When I set the ODC Tier 1 protection. The delay time of protection is 10 seconds. In practice, battery could not enter the protection at 30 seconds instead of 10 seconds.

First I thought, internal oscillator of IC is effecting by temperature. After that I decided to make this test in different temperature levels. In -22°C temperature level, result is still the same. There is no effecting from temperature.

Then I want to make this test when battery connected to the PC by EV2300 dongle. Time of entering protection is 12 seconds. In my opinion IC is synchronizing with SMBus clock. That provide to entering the protecion in correct time.

My question is when battery is not communicate with any system, is there a any delay coefficient for time delay that we can not change? Or is this hardware issue?

  • First of all,  bq20z655-r1 is a bit old device and I would NOT recommend it for new designs.  Also, if I remember correctly, its EVM is already obsolete. I would suggest you use bq40z50-r3 since it a new device and have good EVM and software support.

Regarding your issue, could you share your gg file and also a bqEVSW log file? Thanks.
