TPS92515-Q1: About inductor noise reduction

Part Number: TPS92515-Q1

Hi. Ti team.

Inquire about noise from the inductor.("zzzzzzzzz")

The circuit configuration is as follows.

Even if the values of C11, C12, C13, and C15 are increased, the sound does not decrease.
If the value of R16 is made very large, the sound becomes quieter.
What is the problem?

  • Hello,

I am guessing that you are PWM dimming?  It is very common to have noise from inductors and capacitors when PWM dimming.  It can also happen just from normal operation though not as common since the switching frequency is above the audible range.

By increasing R16 you are reducing the average current and possibly going DCM.

You can try other inductors or moving the frequency causing the noise to a different value. Also try removing the inductor and soldering it to the pads with very short wires to see if it changes.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

I cannot help if you don't provide needed information and try recommendations.  Have you tried any other inductors?  Are you PWM dimming?
