LM5069: Power Limiting

Part Number: LM5069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1663, TPS2660

Hi Ti Team,

I am struggling to understand how the the values for P_lim,min are determined and what that means for my design. The 5069 design spread sheet states that the target power limit minimum is 16.5W. Does that mean that the lowest power value that the 5069 can limit will be 16.5W? The data sheet lays out the process for determining these values but I don't understand how the corresponding equations are derived.

Thank you

  • Hi Nick,

    Thanks for reaching out!

As you know, the device senses the voltage drop (Vsns) across Rsense resistor for current limit and power limit operation. The cell P_lim,min defines the minimum power limit you need to set to ensure reliable power limit operation. The accuracy will be impacted by the offset at lower Vsns values. To avoid any impact on the loop operation, we suggest to Vsns > 5mV.

Please unlock the tool with LM5069 to view the hidden pages for calculations. I suggest to look at integrated solutions TPS1663, TPS2660 and check the suitability for your application.

    Best Regards, Rakesh

  • Hi Rakesh,

    Thank you for the clarification!
