BQ27742-G1: General questions

Part Number: BQ27742-G1

Hi team,

my customer is evaluating the EVM and have some questions. they want to pair the fuel gauge with a 1500mAh battery.

  1. How can they make the device understand the capacity of the battery?
    1. "I wrote the right parameters (Design Voltage, Design Capacity and Design Energy) in the Data subclass of the Configuration section of the data flash of the chip, but even after that the Nominal Available Capacity, the Full Available Capacity and the Full charge capacity register are still reporting the old values."
  2. what values should they be using in the OCV table?
    1. they downloaded the latest version of the chemistry definitions, but claim that the list does not contain any battery from GEB (Battery specs attached).
  3. There is a section on low voltage charging in the datasheet. does this mean this device is capable of charging the battery as well? if so, how can they control the rate of charge?

Thanks,

Kevin Lai

    See my comments below.

[Andy] They need to do a learning cycle. See the following app note for the details.

[Andy] Use the GPCHEM tool (http://www.ti.com/tool/GPCCHEM) to find the best matching id for their battery cell. Follow the instruction manual there to submit their log files.

[Andy] No. The bq27742-g1 is a gauge device only.
