BQ24105-Q1: Timer control charging method

Part Number: BQ24105-Q1

Hi TI-team

My customer have a question.

e2e.ti.com/.../899893

This is about the answer to the above URL.

The timer set by the user in the BQ24105-Q1 is for safety backup (if the charge is not finished within the specified time, it is judged to be abnormal and the charge is stopped) and is different from the timer control charging method, which is one of the nickel metal hydride charging methods.

Are the perceptions correct ?

Nickel-metal hydride timer-controlled charging system: Charging for a predetermined period of time. The condition to end the charge is when the timer runs out.

Best Regards,

Koji Hayashi

  • Dear Koji,

The timer set by the user disables charge if the timer expires before regulation voltage is met. In addition, a second timer is fixed for precharge. However, if the battery reaches termination before the timer expires based upon external hardware, the charging will stop.

These timers exist to make sure that the bq24105-Q1 doesn't stay in precharge and the Constant Current and Constant Voltage modes for too long. However, the user can use an external setup in conjunction with the bq24105-Q1 to stop charging when the user wants too, and not based upon the safety timer. Just make sure the safety timer is longer than the desired charge time such that the safety timer doesn't trip before the user timer.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
