BQ24105-Q1: About timer failure and recovery method described in "Timer Fault Recover"

Part Number: BQ24105-Q1

Hi TI-team

My customer have questions about timer faults and how to recover as described in "Timer Fault Recover" on page 16 of the data sheet.

1.Condition 1 states, "VI(BAT) above recharge threshold (VOREG - VRCH) and timeout fault occurs."

Does this mean that the charge has been completed ?

If so, why are you describing the state of completed charging as a timer failure ?

2.It is stated that bqSWITCHER waits for the battery voltage to fall below the recharge threshold, is it correct to assume that this is when the timer is reset ?

3.Condition 2 states, "Charge voltage below recharge threshold (VOREG – VRCH) and timeout fault occurs"

Does this mean that the charge was not completed within the time frame ?

Best Regards,

Koji Hayashi

  • Dear Koji,

    1. If the battery voltage is above VOREG-VRCH, the battery may not be at VOREG yet. The battery voltage may be somewhere in between VOREG and VOREG-VRCH. In other words, charging may not be completed.

    2. The timer fault is cleared upon dipping below the recharge threshold. The timer is started again following Battery Absent Detection and several other checks described in the Operational Flow Chart  once charging starts again.

    3. That is correct. The charge timer expired both before regulation was reached and before the recharge threshold was reached.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
